if you want a powerful and easy-to-use video editor, movie studio platinum 12 is an excellent choice. it has plenty of features and can be quite easily used. but if you want a program with more features, cyberlink powerdirector 11 is a better choice. it’s much more powerful and has almost as many features, but the interface is a bit more complicated. in either case, these programs are both excellent choices for creating professional-looking videos.
but the best news of all was the sony e-mail from our readers indicating that they loved the site. while everyones getting a pat on the back, we had one big email from a reader named chad. its hard to pick just one of his many emails to highlight, but his passion for the site was inspiring. i was moved when he said that we were the best site for horror fans. hallelujah! we shared a few laughs too, especially when he sent me this gem:
“you wouldnt happen to have any articles on your website regarding the new sony mcgladhen hallucination movie? i think it might be a bit of a sleeper hit. it will be in theaters this fall and i’m pretty sure it’ll be pretty good.”
i responded that i would get back to him. a couple months later i got a call from chad who was waiting anxiously by his phone. he said he had read a couple of horror news sites, and they had nothing on the new sony ghosts movie. he wanted to make sure i was the only one. i reassured him that im a big fan of horror movies too, and i would be the first to review it.
so before we get into the rest of the review, let me tell you about the movie. sony ghosts is a 2001 australian horror feature that stars john jarratt (the guy from poltergeist) and michelle williams. it has a supernatural component that blends with real-world slasher elements. think silent hill meets psycho. this isnt something you see every day, but it was definitely a refreshing change of pace.
in fact, this is all the editor does. you can’t add movies, add titles, or create a storyboard. you can work with audio, however, and the movie studio for audio app is actually better than sony’s for video, although it has the same problem as the video app: you can’t select a clip or add it to a project.
to go online, you can connect to your broadband connection or use wifi. sony offers a free version of its website, but it doesn’t work without a username or password. it also requires flash, and you have to log in and create a free account to view the content. of course, you can watch your creations as they’re uploaded, but the last time i tried, it only let you view one. overall, it’s a pretty useless site. sony also offers a youtube uploader, but it simply doesn’t work. you have to download a special plug-in and install it, but it won’t find your new videos. instead, you have to search youtube. i did, but my clip was just stuck in a “working on it” queue.
yes, in the end, a creation like the one you’re reading about doesn’t need to be shared with anyone. it can be watched, enjoyed, and shown to your friends and family. however, if you want to share your movie, and you want it to appear in any public version of the timeline, you need to store it in a location that can be found by everyone. a network drive would be great, but if you’re the only one with access to it, or you want to share it privately with others, this might not be an option. you could export to a usb stick and then take the whole thing with you, but if you share it online, you need to know where it is.
