I really wanted to like Transformers Prime: The Game. Im a big fan of the CG-animated series that spawned it; though essentially aimed at kids, it was a surprisingly dark and brutal series at times, with some superb writing throughout. The design of the Transformers themselves was handled pretty well too, striking the right balance between colourful, classic-era bots (known as G1 Generation 1 to Transformers fans) and the more modern take favoured by the live action movies at the time (which I was never too crazy on, the excellently physical-looking transformations aside). Though the Autobots have a bunch of kids helping them out, theyre used well and generally arent an annoyance as you may expect. The overall story takes some deep dives into Transformers lore, too which was surprising and very satisfying.
Its been developed by Free Lives United on the Unity platform, and is being published by Activision, who also published Activision Transformers Tactics. Transformers AllSpark and AllSpark OPs are already on the Wii and DS respectively. There is currently no news on mobile platforms, though the game is supposed to be a console exclusive.
Free Lives United has also been working on a third-person brawler game called Nextage for PlayStation 4 called the Digital Extremes (via Epiphanies). Ive not heard anything about this game for awhile and it seems like it might actually be released as the Nextage demo was going to be free to Playstation Plus subscribers to entice them to buy the game. I was still going to try and get Nextage before the TF Prime Demo, but things have changed a bit. Hopefully these plans are still something I can get to.
